Introdcution to Wind Energy
A 2 day course " An Introduction to Wind Energy
The last decades have been very successful for the European wind energy industry. We have seen improvements in the technology, reductions in costs and a large increase in the size of the wind turbines. Since the nineties, the Wind Energy Research Group at Delft University of Technology provides intensive courses on onshore as well as offshore wind energy, aimed at professionals being new in the wind energy industry.
This course covers wind climate, rotor design, electrical and control engineering aspects. The technology of onshore wind energy is treated on all levels, ranging from the fundamentals of aerodynamic loading to dynamic modelling. The course does not intend to upgrade expert knowledge but rather picks out issues of the underlying disciplines that are relevant. However, the lectures do not shun a profound treatment of these issues. In this way, specialists are encouraged to look beyond their own field of expertise, as well as being able to speed up the application of their own knowledge to the development of onshore wind farms. Technical executives will gain an understanding of the diverse range of disciplines involved.
The daily program is divided in oral presentations in the morning and a practical in the afternoon. During the practical the participants will work in groups and address typical design problems.
The course focuses on the technical aspects of wind turbine design. Non-technical issues, such as environmental impact, regulations and social aspects are not part of the scope of this technology course. No prior knowledge is required but a general technical background is assumed.
The course map consists of copies of the sheets and an ‘online’ reader (on DVD).
